Introduction of a digital key performance indicator system in a large brewery

Manually calculating standardized key performance indicators (KPIs) is time-consuming. We automated this analysis with a software solution, simultaneously digitizing runtimes and downtimes directly from the fieldbus level (PLC). Commissioning was carried out in stages to incorporate employee feedback for software improvement and to promote user acceptance.

The automated analysis includes standardized KPIs such as:

  • OPI (Operational Performance Indicator)
  • Minor Stop & Speed Loss
  • MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)

Objectives:

  • Automated calculation of company-wide key performance indicators (KPIs, MTBF, minor stops & speed loss)
  • Gradual integration into the plant

Implemented solution:

  • Dashboards with the most important KPIs
  • Real-time data
  • Online reports for the production manager

Key results:

  • Clear assessment of plant efficiency
  • Identification of improvement measures
  • Basis for continuous improvement processes and total quality management
