Renewal of an existing alarm solution via a prioritized UMTS network
One municipality was faced with the problem that the alarm via levels for the elevators and pumping stations had an expiration date. The background was the termination of the service from the network operator (CSD service in GSM networks by the end of 2017). In terms of budget, a solution was required that reused as many components as possible. This could be achieved with the aid of a converter on Ethernet, combined with a prioritized UMTS network. The consolidation of the messages from 20 stations took place at the headquarters, at the same time old computer hardware was also updated and the existing visualization was retained. Status and trends can be requested via smartphone or tablet.
Objectives:
- New reliable connection of the 20 stations to the control center
- Cost-effective via the re-use of existing components (such as Siemens S5 / S7-200 and HMI visualization in the control center)
- Fast implementation
Solution implemented:
- Use of a secured UMTS solution (M2M architecture)
- Alarm messages are consolidated and sent based on duty rosters
- Configurable escalation stages (managers of the sewage plant, shift and VIP)
Key results:
- Quick implementation
- Cost-effective by using existing components
- Convenient and reliable alarm solution
- Online reports (ÖVGW W85)
